Firefighters from Pasadena, Monrovia, Arcadia, San Marino, Sierra Madre, Glendale, Burbank and LA County Fire Departments tackled a 4 Alarm Commercial Structure Fire in a mutual aid response at the General Motors design facility in Pasadena, CA. The call first came out as a fire alarm with a single fire engine response. It was quickly upgraded to a full structure response with reports of smoke filling the interior of the building. Arriving firefighters worked on making entry to the building and were having trouble locating the source of the fire due to the large size of the structure and multi level design. A second alarm was requested as smoke was filling additional buildings and increasing in amount. Evacuations were also being made and the structure was being searched for anyone who may be trapped or still inside. A third alarm was requested upon location of the fire toward the center of the building and a fourth alarm was requested when a Mayday call was sent out for a firefighter who was trapped and unable to make his way out. Firefighters immediately worked on locating and aiding their fellow firefighter to safety. The firefighter was not injured and refused medical transport. A Hazmat response was requested from Glendale, Burbank & LA County upon discovery of EV vehicles & batteries inside the building which may have been compromised. Firefighters remained on scene overnight working to complete a knockdown as well as commence ventilation of the structure to remove the smoke from inside of the building. It was reported this GM Design facility housed concept/prototype vehicles of which some had been damaged by fire.
