Within a three year period 1869 - 1872 three vessels traveling between New Zealand - England would sink. The normal ratio back then by-the-way was 1:100.
The ‘SV Blue Jacket’ and ‘Matoaka’ went down in 1869.
‘Glenmark’ in 1872.
No one knows exactly where the ‘Matoaka’ and ‘Glenmark’ met their fates.
All three were carrying a fortune in New Zealand Gold.
Over 30 million U.S Dollars in todays terms...minimum.
The largest cargo of which was onboard the ‘Glenmark’ sailing out of Lyttelton.
