"Kuʻu ʻĀina ʻo Papakōlea", composed by Laʻamea Paleka & Jonah Kahanuola Solatorio, honors the Hawaiian Homsteads of Papakōlea, Kewalo Uka, Kalāwahine and the legacy of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaole.
Each verse within this mele is dedicated to sharing the significant place names of each homstead and its characteristics that make them unique! For example youʻll hear names such as "Lanipili", which is the rain of Kalāwahine, or names of the specifc flowers that surround each area.
This is one of 10 new songs from the upcoming album, Mele Hoʻopulapula, Vol. 2. Each mele was composed by a haku mele mentor and mentee in an effort to encourage the next generation of mele practitioners.
