Jack Herer, also known as the "Emperor of Hemp", was a cannabis rights activist and the author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes (1985). He was born in New York City in 1939, before his family moved to Buffalo in 1940, where he was raised. 10 years ago today (April 15 2010), Jack Herer passed away. In memory of his passing, we would like to look back on his many accomplishments for the cannabis and hemp industry.

Watch this documentary video produced by Jack Herer's political activist group, H.E.M.P. (Help Eliminate Marijuana Prohibition). This video showcases the 1942 film, Hemp For Victory, which was produced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. You will see that the American government encouraged farmers to grow hemp to support the war. This film went unseen for many decades. In this documentary, Jack Herer addresses the U.S. government's prolonged denial of the 1942 film.

This documentary also contains a short excerpt from Reefer Madness, a 1936 anti-marijuana propaganda film, followed by a denunciation from Jack Herer.
