THINKING ABOUT RETIRING TO THE PHILIPPINES? We live on a beautiful farm where we grow a majority of our food and have access to every kind of fruit, root crop and vegetable you can desire only a few feet from our door or within walking distance from our home. We are constantly sharing and trading our harvests with our neighbors. This keeps our everyday food costs to a few $$ a day.  Our extra Food Expenses are items we don't really need is about $200. If we limit our Dining out or shopping for things we don't need we could easily live without this expense.

IMMIGRATION ISSUES ARE A SNAP!

I am married to a Filipino for nearly 20 years and as a USA citizen I have a ACR card. (Alien Certificate of Registration) with permanent resident status. The total cost for a 5 year card is around $200 and it only costs $6 a year to renew it.
My electricity, internet and other living costs including housing costs totals around $300. We both have pensions and easily save a few $$ every month. Getting our money from the USA to our Philippines accounts is easy. We have friends with USA bank accounts and Philippines Peso Accounts here. We transfer via ZELLE for FREE to their USA account and they deposit from their Peso account here to our BDO account, also at no cost. We also have Gcash and a WISE account. Wise does not charge a dollar to Peso conversion rates. Wise does charge a low remittance fee. WARNING! NEVER USE A ATM MACHINE! You will get charged a ATM transaction fee plus your own bank will charge you a transaction fee in addition to a dollar to peso conversion rate. Don't screw yourself by using an ATM or another remittance service.
We live about 15 minutes from ROSARIO BATANGAS city center and there are a dozen or more hospitals, various medical clinics, dentists, and pet care services and veternarians. There are 3 Huge Box Stores similar to a Homedepot or Lowes for and 4 or more major grocery stores. There are 2 local wet markets where you can buy anything from Fish To Shoes. If you can't find what you want at the in town stores you can shop online at LAZADA and get the items delivered to your door usually within 48 hours or less. The average shipping charge is about $1.
If we want to dine out every major food franchise is here including, Kenny Rogers, Chowking, Dunkin Donut, KFC, McDonalds, Jollibee, Seattle Coffee, plus many more I can't think of right now and dozens of mom & pop restaurants from the very modest to fancy air conditioned high end all you can eat Buffet restaurants. For transportation we use the modern airconditioned BATRASCO MINI BUSES.  They are super nice and comfortable and we can go anywhere for about $1 or less. Or I can simply pick up the phone and call several of our trusted trike or late model car drivers and they will take us where we want to go door to door. This is a heck of a lot cheaper than owning a car and fighting traffic, parking, tolls and fuel costs. Of course there are the trykes and jeepneys with very low fares.
I could care less to travel and visit the cities. My favorite place is my little home on the farm. I stay busy tending my gardens, mowing and trimming my lawn, harvesting crops, building things, furniture refinishing, transplanting seedlings and starting flower and vegetable seeds, in addition to managing my hydroponic growing system and bean sprouting and Micro green projects PLUS 101 other projects around the house. I am never bored.
We ❤ Love it here! We would Not return to the states for any reason. That is why we have been here 20 years! If interested I have dozens of videos proving everything I say. #1 tip regarding retiring or staying long term in the Philippines. LEARN TAGALOG. The national language. You are going to get real tired having someone translate everything for you. There are 24 hours in a day and plenty of time to learn. Do yourself a favor and Invest 1 hour daily in study and you will get a good handle on the language within the year.
