It should not come as a shock to find that Sinead O'Connor's monster power-ballad hit "Nothing Compares 2 U" was originally written by the Purple One, Prince in 1984 for his relatively obscure band called "The Family".
In 2018, Prince's 1984 demo was remixed and reissued for the 2019 posthumous album "Originals", composed of Prince songs he wrote for others. The US Target CD editions included, what I believe, is the definitive mix of Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U, dubbed "The Cinematic Mix" which heightened Clare Fischer's orchestral arrangement. Not much more to be said, just a really good version of an amazing song.
