Paul R Tregurtha arriving on a gorgeous May day, a few waves in the canal but not even noticeable in comparison to her! Arriving for her usual coal run to and from Detroit with a salute and a big crowd waiting for her!
Built in 1981 as the William J DeLancey the Paul R Tregurtha is the world’s largest freshwater vessel by physical size at 1,014ft in length and 105ft wide. She has a carrying capacity of 71,000 tons, and is the flagship of the Interlake Steamship Company. Her nickname is The Queen. Last season she had her ballast tanks rebuilt, and this past winter she was dry docked, painted, inspected and had maintenance done to get her as good as new! Considered the hometown hero of Duluth in a way, she continues to amaze everyone who sees her, regardless of how many times!
