I came across Shazam again — a wild stallion recently injured, yet still leading, protecting, and moving with his band. 5 days later.
In this video, Shazam is seen healing quickly. The blood visible days earlier is now gone, and he is eating, walking, rolling, and behaving normally while managing his band of mares and foals.
Despite the challenges he faces in the wild, he continues to do what wild stallions have always done — endure.
The first moments of this video focus briefly on Shazam alone, showing the healing injury. The remainder unfolds naturally as I witnessed it: the band moving quietly along the forest edge, mares and foals staying close, and Shazam remaining watchful throughout.
This footage is filmed from a respectful distance using a long telephoto lens.
There is no interaction, no feeding, and no interference — only observation.
No music. No narration. Just winter, horses, and the sounds of the wild.
These moments remind us that resilience in nature is often quiet.
Thank you for watching and for caring about Alberta’s wild horses.
