I spent the day hanging out with a variety of raptors in Half Moon Bay yesterday. Harriers, White-tailed Kites, Kestrels, Red-shouldered and Red-tailed Hawks ..... it was a fun day. I'll have more videos as I get through the footage, but I wanted to started with this fun little "Raptor Rumble". I was videoing a White-tailed Kite and he started swooping down toward a tree. At first I didn't know what he was doing, but after a couple passes I was able to see that he was dive-bombing a Red-shouldered Hawk. After that, I decided to focus my lens on the hawk to better capture the interactions between the two.
After the kite gave up, an American Kestrel decided to join the fray and started dive-bombing the hawk. He too was unsuccessful. So the kite decided to take one more try at him. This time he was successful. And after dislodging the hawk, he cruised on back to his tree to relax and enjoy his victory.
