MAINAU Flower island

Mainau is an island in Lake Constance. The lake lies on the border of Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

The island belongs to the district of Litzelstetten-Mainau, a district of Konstanz, located in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Mainau is situated on the Upper Swabian Baroque Road. Nearby towns include Überlingen and Meersburg. From the German side, the island is accessible via a causeway and a bridge. On the other side, there is a harbor with a small jetty for Lake Constance tour boats.

On the 45-hectare island, thousands of plants bloom from April to October, year-round. In spring, daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths flourish; in May, rhododendrons, including azaleas; from June onward, a variety of summer flowers, including many roses; and in autumn, 200 varieties of dahlias. The island also boasts a collection of 5,000 orchid species, and thanks to the mild climate of Lake Constance, palm, orange, mandarin, and lemon trees also thrive here. A restaurant is located at the harbor for visitors.
