The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler (2003): My Short Skirt

Описание: In remembrance of the fact that, more than 60 years after independence, Kenyan women are still being policed about what they wear, here's the poem "My Short Skirt" performed in 2002 by Kaz Lucas.

This poem is rallying call for unity against the lack of safety experienced by women just being. In addition to being criticised for what we're wearing, we have to watch how we speak (don't be too clever or too sassy), watch our drinks against spiking (FACT: it's not your fault if this happens to you!), avoid eye contact, be submissive.

In short, before we venture outdoors, we have to put on our armour (both literally and figuratively). Remember though, that "it's not all men, but it's always a man". Since men are the problem, it's time to shift the requirements on improved behaviour to the perpetrators rather than the women.

I produced The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2013, 2017, 2018 and 2019, as part of the V-Day Worldwide Campaign, and with a group of formidable women (and men) we raised awareness and funding for various organisations that are working tirelessly to end violence against Kenyan women and girls.

There is still so much more to be done.
