3 P40 Pumps Broken in 1 Day… Plastic + Cold Weather = Expensive Problems
We had three separate P40 pumps crack on the same day in 35° weather—all in the exact same spot. One was brand new, one was 3 months old, and one failed after its first job. Different trailers, different storage situations—same result.
These are NOT warranty issues. Comet makes it clear they won’t cover cold weather failures. Repairs will be out of pocket.
P40 pumps are not built like pressure washer pumps—they’re reinforced plastic. When the bypass line fills and pressure has nowhere to go, it finds the weakest point. Cold temps make that problem even worse.
Big contributing factors:
Running full RPM
Cranking up pressure with the regulator
Staying off the trigger too long
Operating in cold conditions
If you see a leak – STOP and fix it immediately.
Soft wash systems can and will freeze. If temps are low, you must blow out lines, run antifreeze, or take other precautions. Wind chill matters—40° at 60 mph equals below-freezing conditions.
At some point, when it gets cold enough, you simply have to stop washing.
