The island of Elba is the largest of the Tuscan islands and embodies the charm and exclusivity of an area rich in nature, history, and civilization from the ancient Etruscan, Roman and medieval people.
Portoferraio, the capital, and almost mandatory docking for those arriving on Elba. This town is the most populated on the island and holds great treasures of Elban culture.

Remembrance of the ancient Romans is the remains of Villa della Linguella, at the end of the seafront, and of Villa delle Grotte, on the provincial road that connects Portoferraio with Porto Azzurro.
From the Middle Ages, all the charm of the domination of the De 'Medici family remained. Cosimo I de 'Medici had an impregnable fortress built which is still perfectly visible today.

To commemorate the presence of the Emperor of France, Napoleon, who was forced into a long exile on Elba, there are the Napoleonic museums in the Villa Dei Mulini, inside the historic center, and in Villa San Martino, just outside the city.
Another place rich in history is the Volterraio Castle, on the homonymous road that connects the municipality of Rio Elba with Magazzini. Built by the Pisans, during their domination, as a sighting place, today it is an essential destination for trekking lovers and for those who want to admire a magnificent view over the central part of the island.
It seems incredible but a few meters away there are realities so different from each other that Elba is like made up of many small worlds. Eight municipalities: Portoferraio, Marciana, Marciana Marina, Campo Nell Elba, Porto Azzurro, Rio Marina, Capoliveri, Rio Elba seem to be small worlds apart from each one with its culture, traditions, and also the linguistic and architectural cadence of the historic centers.

Портоферрайо, столица и главный порт о. Эльба. От древних римлян остались фундаменты виллы делла Лингуэлла и вилла делле Гротте на провинциальной дороге в Порто Адзурро. От Средневековья осталась вся прелесть господства семьи Медичи.
Козимо I Медичи построил неприступную крепость. В память о периоде ссылки императора Франции Наполеона, - вилле дей Мулини, в историческом центре, и вилла Сан-Мартино. Еще одно место с богатой историей — замок Вольтеррайо в Рио-Эльба, откуда открываются потрясающие виды на остров.
Кажется невероятным, но всего в нескольких километрах друг от друга существуют настолько разные реальности, словно Эльба состоит из множества маленьких миров. Восемь муниципалитетов: Портоферрайо, Марчиана, Марчана-Марина, Кампонель-Эльба, Порто-Аззурро, Рио-Марина, Каполивери, Рио-Эльба, каждый из которых отличается своей культурой, традициями, а также языковым и архитектурным ритмом жизни.
