You might be quite surprised at what age I recommend you stop swaddling your baby. In this video, I explain two main reasons why it's a good idea to remove the swaddle between 6-8 weeks.
Babies at this age are starting to develop their gross motor skills.
This means they have more control over the movement of their limbs, especially their hands.
You may find they are reaching, batting toys and exploring their mouth with their hands.
This is all normal and also is part of their ability to self-soothe.
Their startle reflex is another reason. This reflex is involuntary and starts to diminish around 8-12 weeks.
If babies are swaddled longer than 12 weeks, they may struggle with sleep.
When babies are unswaddled earlier they can manage their startle reflex a lot better and will diminish earlier.
