Newborn infants display instinctive behaviors that help to communicate whether they are ready to play (engagement cues), ready to eat (hunger cues), or they're full, gassy, working on a bowel movement (poop cues), sleepy (tired cues), overstimulated (disengagement cues), in light or in deep sleep. Learning about cues, and responding to them promptly can help to reduce infant crying and help you feel like a more confident parent.
