AirAsia X is setting up its first hub outside Asia, choosing Bahrain as the base for its Middle East expansion. The low-cost long-haul carrier plans to launch flights to London later this year, with longer-term ambitions to establish a separate Bahrain-based airline, AirAsia Bahrain.
On The Business Breakfast, Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A and Advisor to AirAsia X, explained the thinking behind choosing Bahrain and how the airline plans to compete on a well-served Asia–London corridor, where Gulf carriers and direct operators already dominate.
