Aphids are a common early-season pest of native coral honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens). Rudy-throated hummingbirds feed on the nectar in the flowers of this plant. To avoid the use of harmful chemical sprays or soaps on the aphids, you could use a strong spray of water to dislodge many of the aphids or wait a little while for natural predators to show up and eat the aphids. Ladybird beetles or ladybugs, both in their immature (larval) and adult form, are key predators. They eat aphids as well as other common garden pests like whiteflies, spider mites, and scales. They are good insects to have around a garden, as they control pests naturally.
