Head Coach Kevin Goode of Bishop Kearney has the dream job when it comes to high school basketball, every year he either has several D1 prospects or maybe even a McDonald's All American on the squad. Bishop Kearney has turned into a basketball powerhouse on the high school level, these guys really play above the rim. Their regular season schedule is quite demanding too, these guys are on the road a lot. Their 11-5 record doesn't justify the amount of talent on this team, these guys are playing against some of the toughest teams in the state regularly. Yet, After watching them play against a good Niagara squad, I am convinced that this team can compete for a state title.
‪#‎Facts‬ The team is led by the 6'6 guard Quinton Rose, who will be headed to Temple University this fall on a full athletic scholarship. Bishop Kearney also has the explosive 6'0 Sr Rian Carter who is capable of scoring anywhere on the court, within minutes Carter is capable of easily dropping 20 points. Rian Carter is definitely capable of playing on the division one level, we are talking about a kid who can dunk on you multiple times or continue to make it rain from the 3 point line. In fact Rian Carter should be listed arguable as a top 3 guard in Section 5 Basketball.
6'4 Jr Nahziah Carter will be playing college basketball, the kid can fly. When he jumps for a rebound his head is even with the rim, he is capable of dribbling coast to coast and completing the transition with a dunk. Even though Nahziah is blessed with talent, he is also fundamentally sound. Coach Goode is passionate about his basketball squad, he really gets the best out of his guys.
6'3 Sr Brian Fobbs is also a signature member of the King's basketball program, his basketball IQ and fundamentally sound skill set would make him an ideal pick for any program. Fobbs is a defensive specialist, every time I have seen him play he create's offense from his smothering defense.
Now, 6'2 Jr Myles Travis is the utility man on the team.
Every team needs a "Myles Travis on it, this kid is the ultimate teammate. Against Niagara he grabbed 18 rebounds, he went perfect from the free throw line, he nailed a baseline jumper, and had 6 blocks. Myles Travis is a impact player, his presence is always felt on the court.
Coach Goode definitely has his share of talent on that squad but Goode is also one hell of a coach. He can honestly relate to the players because he was also heavily recruited by D1 school's in football, basketball and track. The players can't really get a "big head" when your coach has already experienced the journey that you are headed to. Coach Goode is also very vocal and will repeat his message until its executed on command. Lots to look forward to in the next coming weeks
