The city is recreating itself as an entertainment capital revitalizing its historic homes and building up its coastal walkways with an F1 race track and commercial shopping area. Its heritage is renowned as the gateway to Mecca, the most significant pilgrimage of Islam. The port city was once the full of pilgrims preparing and resupply ing before their hike 50 mile hike up into the holiest city. The city was full of contrast. my first day I wandered through the maze of the old town admiring Jeddahs ancient architecture. The second day took me up the coast to see the shiny skyscrapers that snake their way along the corniche. Saudi was full of surprises, Jeddah was no exception and here’s how it went…
