So this 96 XP started having an issue where it was blowing the 5amp fuse on the mpem and that caused loss of power to everything.
After ruling out the VTS unit by disconnecting it and it still blew the fuse, I moved on to checking the rectifier by disconnecting that. Still had same issue. At this point I figured it had to be the stator. I ordered a new stator from OSD Marine and got a new mag pickup sensor from another store. Once they arrived I removed the exhaust pipe and then the oil injection pump. Use a ratchet strap from the engine to the garage hoist to tilt the engine at an angle upwards to get at all the bolts to remove the front cover. Once I got it off and saw how crusty the stator and inside cover was, I began removing the stator and cleaning the cover. Got the new stator and pickup installed as well as new cover oring gasket and pump oring gasket. Instead of reusing the original hex bolts for the cover I used new m6x25mm stainless sockethead bolts to make removing it in the future much easier.
Then got the exhaust back on with new gaskets of course. Got everything hooked back up and to my surprise the 5amp fuse was still blowing. At this point I am frustrated. I had to continue my process of elimination. I started disconnecting all the gauges one by one and finally pinpointed that it was a faulty speedometer gauge.
