Springtime always means I gravitate towards the pianists who emerged in the 1990s, and this year has been no exception. The present recording of Anderszewski's felt particularly apt since it has a view of Bach this author would find inappropriate in autumn, insincere in winter - but which does come to its right during these cool spring mornings, when the aesthetics is right outside the door. The grandiloquent German rigour of the old baroque master has here been made subject to Anderszewski's sensitive aquarelle, lending the composition tenderness, even poetry, and an almost Monetian grace. Granted, it's a filtered view, but as so often is the case with Anderszewski also a personal, memorable, and quite beautiful one.
