The Mahuri Kalua Temple, a popular picnic spot near Berhampur in Odisha, is associated with a legend about the Goddess Mahuri Kalua. The story says the goddess was initially established in a cave on a hilltop, accessible only to the King and his family. The King received a special sword from the goddess, which protected him from danger. However, after losing the sword, the King was defeated, and the goddess was then established at the foot of the hill by a Sabara (a tribal person). The temple is now a popular destination, with steps built to allow tourists to visit the cave where the goddess was originally placed
