Aphrodisias (Greek: Ἀφροδισιάς) is the common name for several ancient cities dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite. The most famous of these is the Ancient Greek city located in southwestern Anatolia, within the ancient region of Caria. Today, it is situated near the village of Geyre in the Karacasu district of Aydın province. Following the commencement of archaeological excavations, the village of Geyre was relocated.

Aphrodisias was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2009 and was officially registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.

Founded in the 5th century BC, the city flourished during the Roman Empire. Between the 1st century BC and the 5th century AD, it became a major artistic center, particularly renowned for its school of sculpture. It gained widespread fame for its Temple of Aphrodite and the grand festivals held in her honor.

The Temple of Aphrodite, dedicated to the city's patron goddess, is the oldest marble building in the city. The clear demarcation of the temple's sacred enclosure (temenos) was historically significant due to the right of asylum granted to the sanctuary. Inscriptions found around the temple reveal that this privilege was first granted by Julius Caesar and his successor, and later confirmed by the Roman Emperor Augustus.

The names of elite local families who contributed to the construction of the marble temple, completed in the early 1st century AD, are inscribed on its columns. Gaius Julius Zoilos, considered the founder of the temple, was honored with the title of "Priest of Aphrodite" for life.

Afrodisias veya Afrodisyas(Grekçe: Ἀφροδισιάς, romanize: Aphrodisiás), Tanrıça Afrodit'e adanmış birçok eski çağ kentinin ortak adı. Afrodisyas (ya da Afrodisias) adlı kentlerin en ünlüsü, Anadolu'nun güneybatısında, eski Karia bölgesinde, günümüzde Aydın ilinin Karacasu ilçesine bağlı Geyre mahallesinin bulunduğu yerde bulunan Antik Yunan kentidir. Arkeolojik kazılar başladıktan sonra Geyre taşınmıştır.

2009'da UNESCO tarafından Dünya Mirası Geçici Listesi'ne dâhil edilen Afrodisias, 2017'de ise Dünya Mirası olarak tescil edildi.

MÖ 5. yüzyılda kurulan kent, Roma İmparatorluğu döneminde gelişmiş, MÖ 1. yüzyıl ile MS 5. yüzyıllar arasında, başta heykelcilik olmak üzere önemli bir sanat merkezi haline gelmiş, Afrodit tapınağıyla ve Afrodit adına yapılan törenlerle ün salmıştır.

Kentin tanrıçası Aphrodite için yapılan tapınak kentteki en eski mermer binadır. Tapınağa ait kutsal alanın (temenos) sınırlarının belli olması bu alana tanınan sığınma hakkından dolayı önemli olmuştur. Tapınak çevresindeki yazıtlarla önce bu imtiyazın Julius Caesar ve ardılı, daha sonra da Roma İmparatoru Augustus tarafından verildiği ortaya konulmuştur.

MS 1. yüzyılın başlarında tamamlanan mermer tapınağın yapımında yardımcı olan seçkin yerel ailelerin isimleri sütunlar üzerine yazılmış, tapınağın kurucusu olarak kabul edilen Gaius Julius Zoilos, yaşamı boyunca Aphrodite rahibi unvanı ile onurlandırılmıştır.
