This was a hike you’ve made many times before, though usually you brought with you much more mundane offerings such as food or coin. A person was never supposed to be on offer. Your village was supposed to be better than this. However no one could have anticipated just how devastating the blight would be upon their lands. When this strange woman offered herself up as tribute not a single person argued against it. She was a traveler, a stranger, someone no one would miss. The decision was easy. So here you are. Doing your duty and guiding her up the perilous path to the offering site close to the mountain’s tallest peak where up above lies the den of a beast most terrible.
