Most people have no idea that the company behind ChatGPT is now one of the biggest funders of Donald Trump's political machine. OpenAI's president, Greg Brockman, recently gave $25 million to MAGA Inc, making him the largest tech donor of the fundraising cycle.

And it gets much worse. ICE is now using OpenAI's technology to screen job applicants for its deportation operations. According to internal sources, this has already led to untrained recruits being sent into the field. Meanwhile, OpenAI helped launch a $100 million Super PAC dedicated to destroying state-level AI safety laws. They want to ensure that only the federal government (read: Trump) gets to write the rules for the most powerful new technology on earth.

Now here's what OpenAI doesn't want you to know: they're vulnerable. Very vulnerable. They've already dropped from 87% market share to 65% in a single year. They spend three dollars for every dollar they bring in. Their entire business model depends on you believing there's no alternative. But Claude exists, Gemini exists, open-source alternatives like Confer, Alpine and Lumo exist, and most people who try them say they're just as good or better.

Yes, the other companies have their issues too. But OpenAI is in a league of its own – both in how badly they behave and how exposed they are. ChatGPT's users are relatively young and most of them are unaware of any of this. Most would never knowingly fund Trump's biggest tech donor, or a company that helps ICE, or a product that tells children how to end their lives. They just don't know yet.
