Speaker: Professor Franco Brezzi (Institute for applied mathematics and information technologies (IMATI))
Date: 22nd Oct 2019 - 9:05 to 9:50
Venue: INI Seminar Room 1
Title: Serendipity Virtual Elements
Event: (GCS) Geometry, compatibility and structure preservation in computational differential equations
Abstract: Afterabrief reminder of classical ("plain vanilla") Virtual Elementswe will see the generalphilosophy of "enhanced VirtualElements" and the various types of Serendipity spaces as particular cases. The construction will always be conceptually simple (and extremely powerful, inparticular for polygons with many edges), but a codeexploitingthefull advantage of havingmany edges might become difficult in thepresence of non convex polygons, and in particular for complicated shapes. Weshall also discuss differentchoices ensuring various advantages fordifferent amounts of work.
