Who knew my Bible had it's own built in markers? I'm not talking about chapter/verse numbers because they were added later by the translators. These markers are not like all those colorful Bible journaling hi-lighters. I do love all them beautiful shades on my pages.
BUT...
These are more like place markers where the story takes a shift or a turn into a different direction (or something of that sort). The writers were very skillful at putting God's inspired truths into literary works of art. You can also use geographical locations as road markers and follow the flow of the story. There is usually some kind of a flow. If you look for it you will see a gradual movement. This can help us to create pivotal points where we can divide our Bible studies into sections. Some of these original markers actually make more sense than those chapter/verse divisions that the modern translators added on.
How amazing is that?!?!
EXTRA:
I recently learned that Matthew has it's own unique markers. It's structured to mirror the Pentateuch. You'll find 5 sections in the literature of Matthew. He wrote to the Jews, and they were so steeped in the law that they would have very easily recognized and understood the flow of his writing in this way. Let me know if you have heard this before.
1- Sermon on Mt
2- Mission
3- Kingdom parables
4- Forgiveness/Community
5- Olivet discourse
