Despite her accomplishments and outward joy, her parents later discovered she had silently struggled with addiction, potentially beginning in high school after being prescribed opioids for medical procedures. As she grew older, subtle changes—new social circles, distance from family, and abrupt life choices—were overlooked or misunderstood. In April 2024, the Davises were devastated to learn of her sudden death, later confirmed as caused by a lethal dose of pure fentanyl. In the wake of unimaginable grief, they founded Jayla's Voice, a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness about substance use, the dangers of fentanyl, and the warning signs they wish they had recognized. Through their pain, they now educate other families, determined that Jayla’s story will save lives.
