In this research demo, we present our in-situ melt pool monitoring method for the laser directed energy deposition (LDED) process, as described in our paper "In-situ Melt Pool Monitoring of Laser Aided Additive Manufacturing using Infrared Thermal Imaging."
We employ a high-resolution infrared thermal camera from InfraTec (https://www.infratec.eu/thermography/) to monitor the melt pool region during the robot-based direct energy deposition (DED) process. Our ROS-based multi-nodal software enables in-situ thermal image processing and melt pool feature extraction. The key contribution is a multi-feature extraction pipeline that concurrently processes sensor data acquisition and extracts both geometric and thermal characteristics in real-time.
Key Features:
1. Real-time extraction and visualization of melt pool characteristics.
2. Concurrent image processing and sensor data acquisition.
3. Effective detection of process anomalies and defects in additive manufacturing (AM).
