Sky News host James Macpherson has slammed CNN for unknowingly “setting free” an alleged war criminal.
A Syrian fact-checking outlet warned Salama Mohammad Salama, a first lieutenant in the Syrian Air Force Intelligence, allegedly misled rebels and CNN’s Clarissa Ward into leading him out of prison last week.
“The network that specialises in propagating misinformation seems to have themselves been the victim of misinformation,” Mr Macpherson said.
“A lack of curiosity that led them to assist in setting free an alleged war criminal and broadcasting it globally as one of the most amazing moments on television in 20 years.”
