Anthony Ritchie is the subject of our latest Baby Boomer Composer interview, in partnership with the New Zealand School of Music, with interviewer Donald Maurice.
From a deeply musical family, the notion of becoming a composer always felt natural. Anthony studied with John Cousins, Chloe Moon and his father John at Canterbury University and went on to earn a PhD on the subject of Béla Bartók at the Bartók Archives in Budapest. We hear about the influence of minimalism on Anthony’s work and his more recent adoption of what he terms a “naive style” with illustrations by way of his ‘Symphony No.4’, the piano trio ‘Childhood’ and the major work ‘Gallipoli to The Somme’.
Audio recorded by Graham Kennedy.
Film funded by NZ On Air.
