Amazon's Fallout stands out as the worst video game adaptation in recent memory. Despite this, it has garnered world wide acclaim and even been named "Best Adaptation" at the Game Awards. And yet it has 125 instances of Retcons and lore contradictions that break any veneer of it being a faithful adaptation. Can I specify all those instances? Well, how could I possibly refuse a question phrased like that?
This is a Long Form Critical Analysis, a Video Essay, that offers a Retrospection of Season 1 of Amazon's Fallout Television Adaptation. It evaluates the TV Show on the basis of its adherence to lore. It does this by listing all of the one hundred and twenty five instances where the TV Show contradicted the Lore of the Original Franchise. These Lore breaks range from minor changes to absolutely universe breaking, to the extent that by the end of this video you will most likely agree that this show is completely antithetical to the Fallout Cannon. Fallout and this TV Show cannot exist in the same universe. And thus, I would posit the question: how is this "THE BEST ADAPTATION?"
Oh hi, I am ONEai. I made this video because I felt there was a need for someone to catalogue all of the retcons in Season 1 of Amazon's Fallout. Things were going well for us consumers of media. The Video Game adaptation seemed to have been making a comeback and Hollywood had finally learned to respect the IP that they were adapting and incorporate the creators like with HBO's The Last Of Us and Netflix's Arcane Season 1. It seemed we were finally free. And then Amazon regurgitated this abomination and Todd and Emil put their stamp of approval on it and everything we had managed to accomplish in the past five years went up in smoke.
The Fallout TV Show is not a good adaptation of Fallout. It is on par with some of the worst adaptations ever made. This is painfully obvious to anyone who has played the games and has a functioning cortex. However, unfortunately it has garnered unanimous approval from all but the most principled of critics.
The success of this show is completely unmerited and built on hype mongering shills lying through their teeth. I will expose this show for what it is: the poorly written, lazy collection of contradictions dressed up in the flayed skin of the Fallout franchise that Bethesda has been parading around as it's war trophy since Zenimax's Acquisition of the IP.
If this show is not killed in its crib, it will bring the bar down to a ludicrous level. Television Media had been taking a better turn as audiences lambasted shows like Paramount's Halo and Netflix's Cowboy Bebop with scorn while praising better shows like Netflix's Arcane. It seemed the age of the mediocre adaptation had come to an end. This is coincided with Bethesda, a once great RPG developer, being run through the wringer over their mishandling of Fallout 76 and Starfield while better RPGs like Balder's Gate 3 were showered in accolades. Finally, we were beginning to take a step forward towards better media. But this Show's reception amongst others has caused all of that progress to be thrown back into the Stone Age. It is a nuclear bomb of sorts that has set humanity's cultural progress back to 0.
Now with Season 2 approaching like the second salvo of a thermonuclear payload, aimed directly for the faint, beating heart of the franchise, Fallout New Vegas, the last holdout and refuge for those who demand quality from Bethesda and still criticize it in the hopes of one day returning to the days of Morrowind, we need a man like Mr. House who can use every facility at his disposal to save New Vegas from the wrath and folly of a bygone generation. Someone who is more machine than man, whose ruthless drive towards reigniting civilisation can forge a new rail line running to a new horizon despite his lack of resources or support.
I cannot be the man for this task, but can at least be the machine.
At least until a mailman bashes my head in with a 9 Iron for the achievement.
