रात में अस्थमा क्यों बढ़ जाता है | What is Nocturnal Asthma (nighttime asthma) | Asthma at Night
In this new video, Dr. Priyanka Singh explains why asthma worsens at night, known as Nocturnal asthma.
Nocturnal asthma symptoms include tightness or heaviness in the chest, wheezing sound, coughing with mucus, and dry cough.
Nocturnal asthma can happen to any age group, from children to seniors. Children from four years to ten years also suffer from this because their young bodies are unable to deal with the most minor level of symptoms.
Asthma symptoms can be caused at night by factors such as circadian rhythm. The body operates on its internal clock, with hormones and physiological processes following their own rhythm. Due to this rhythm, airways become small at night, causing difficulty breathing and increased symptoms.
Environmental triggers such as dust in the room and dust on the mattress also increase symptoms at night.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) can increase symptoms, particularly during sleep.
Postural changes can also increase symptoms. When in a sleeping position at night, mucus forms in the airways and narrows the air passages, preventing the free flow of air and, hence, increasing symptoms.
Stress also plays a role in triggering asthma symptoms, as individuals may focus on stressful thoughts that can worsen their condition.
Additionally, allergens and temperature changes can lead to increased symptoms. For instance, using air conditioning or coolers at night may result in a sudden rise in temperature during the day, provoking a reaction in the patient. Cold temperatures during sleep can also cause the body to react, intensifying symptoms.
Lastly, poor indoor air quality increases symptoms, especially as you sleep at night with closed windows, preventing cross-ventilation and letting pollutants remain in your room.
