Описание: If those pesky filters at youtube will allow, I plan to post three of my favourite movie songs from 1979, as my chances to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of all things '79 is running away! 1979 was when I began going to the cinema in earnest and it has been one of the truly great loves of my life - seeing films. 'Chapter 2' was released December 14, 1979 to qualify for the Oscars and it managed a Best Leading Actress nomination for the luminous Marsha Mason, who is one of my all time favourite actresses. I have a KING sized crush on the lady - always have - always will. Marsha is playing a version of herself in this movie, as Neil Simon adapted his stage play for this movie which is based on his whirlwind courtship and marriage to the aforementioned actress Ms Mason! James Caan played Neil Simon and in supporting roles the late greats: Joseph Bologna and the sublime Valerie Harper, who passed away this year (2019). If ever a movie song was perfectly representative of its source material 'I'm On Your Side' is such an example. Penned by the legendary Marvin Hamlisch and Carole Bayer Sager and sung so beautifully and sensitively by Marilyn McCoo. the song was egregiously was overlooked by the Academy - but as I will outline, this was a banner year for movie songs and in fact the songwriting pair Hamlisch (music) and Bayer-Sager (lyrics) found themselves Oscar nominated for the also beautiful 'Through The Eyes Of Love' from 'Ice Castles' and sung by the exquisite Melissa Manchester. ''Chapter 2' is a movie I can watch time and again as it is so smartly written by Neil Simon and so well acted by the great actors and it is all about the transformative power of love. 'Chapter 2' was further ingrained into pop culture when an episode of Seinfeld' used an impassioned speech by Marsha Mason to James Caan to great comedic effect. I know I would be ok, if Marsha Mason was on my side! The final image here is that of Neil and Marsha together! Neil Simon's death in 2018 has really impacted me and I have been reconnecting with his movies and his autobiography to find out more about one of my lifelong heroes! His wit; his sense of character and emotion was paralleled and he is one of the all time most successful Broadway playwrights.
