A new Nature (October 2025) study shows that across ~1.4M online images/videos, women are depicted as younger than men across occupations and roles, although there's no corresponding age gap in US workforce data. The bias is strongest in high-status jobs and gets amplified by mainstream algorithms: Google Image results shift people’s beliefs and hiring choices, and LLMs (ChatGPT) assume female applicants are younger/less experienced when generating and rating resumes. In this video, we unpack what this means for everyday users, job seekers, leaders, and creators and most importantly, what to do about it.
