Unfortunately, spleen tumors in dogs often go undetected until it's too late. The spleen fills with blood, a tumor forms on it, and eventually, it ruptures, causing internal bleeding. This situation leaves very few options for a positive outcome.

To address this issue before it is too late, Dr. Smith recommends an #ultrasound of the spleen for dogs prone to these tumors. By identifying any abnormalities or tumors early on, he can provide treatment before the spleen ruptures.

While there is a financial cost associated with getting an ultrasound done, the good news is that if the spleen can be removed, it significantly extends the dog's life compared to if a rupture were to occur.
