I “Chased and Paced" the historic Rio Grande Southern's #20 coal fired locomotive during its “Shakedown with Tonnage” test run from Durango to Rockwood and back.
Part 3 highlights splitting the train and only turning part of the train. This was because the tail of the wye is too short to turn the 5 car train and engine. The departure for Durango closes this part. Please watch additional Whitcraft Videos and subscribe.
Monday, January 5, 2026, was the first time this 127-year-old, T-19, class 4-6-0, "Ten-Wheeler"locomotive was fired up in Durango since the RGS #20 last ran here, 75 years ago! The RGS #20 is visiting from the Colorado Railroad Museum and will run special excursions this winter. This famous engine last operated in Durango in 1951 and achieved cinematic fame as Ema Sweeny, starring in the 1949 film A Ticket to Tomahawk
