See, this whole situation started off in the postseason, with the Golden State Warriors up 1-0 in the series heading into this important Game 2.

The first quarter was nearing an end, and Payton jumped straight up while guarding Jokic and rejected his layup attempt with emphatic force.

After that, the Warriors started to break out in transition while you could still see Payton stand over by Jokic and share a few words towards him after blocking his shot. Jokic and the Nuggets were slowly slipping from their lead to begin with, and you could feel the frustrations early on. That was when Payton went and did this to the Joker.
