In this video, one of the editors in chief of Targeted Therapies in Oncology, Robert L. Ferris, MD, PhD, discusses the latest treatment advances in urologic oncology, with a focus on the recent 25th Annual Meeting of the Society of Urologic Oncology. Ferris discusses the evolution starting with the innate immune stimulator, Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), and innate immune therapies to adaptive immune therapies and combining immune checkpoint inhibitors with neoadjuvant immunotherapy.
He also addresses the role of surgeon and how this role is becoming better integrated into the multi-disciplinary approach along with medical and radiation oncology to create a patient-centered strategy.
Ferris is Lineberger distinguished professor, executive director of UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and chief of Oncology Services UNC Health System Chapel Hill, NC.
