🧂 Over 2,500km long, the Hedge was grown by the British Empire in the Indian subcontinent between 1840 and 1880, separating the British-occupied Bengal Presidency from independent states. Part of the Inland Customs Line, it was planted to prevent smuggling and enforce the British monopoly on salt.
