208 Naxalites surrender in Bastar, join mainstream |

Описание: Months after senior Naxalite leader Basavaraju was killed in Chhattisgarh in May, many members of the militant group began surrendering and expressed their wish to join the mainstream. Today, in Jagdalpur, 208 Naxalites surrendered and laid down their weapons. They are likely to receive the rehabilitation measures announced by the Union Government. The surrendered rebels expressed confidence in the Constitution of India. Security forces welcomed the move as a positive step towards peace and development in the region. Earlier, 258 militants from Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra had surrendered. Union Home Minister Amit Shah called it a landmark day in a battle against Naxalism and declared Abujmarh and North Bastar free from Naxal terror.
