We use “ There Is “ and “ There Are “ to say something exist.
Example:
1. There is a teacher in the classroom.(For this sentence, show that “ Have one teacher “)
2. There are a lot of students in the class.
There Is and There Are
We use “ There Is “ with singular nouns and with uncountable noun. “ There Are ” use with plural nouns .
Step 1 : There is
Use with Singular nouns and with the uncountable noun.
The Singular Noun is a noun that refers to one person, animal, place, and idea.
The uncountable noun cannot be counted.
Examples with " There is "
1. There is one table in the classroom.( One table is the Singular Noun. So, we use " there is " )
2. There is some sugar on the table.( Sugar is the uncountable noun )
Step 2: There Are
Use with the Plural Noun.
1. There are three chairs in the classroom.
2. There are a lot of people at the bus stop.
Contraction of " There is " and " There are "
The contraction of " There is " is " There's ". But, " There are " cannot.
1. There's a good song on the radio.
2. There's some sugar on the table.
