First off I do apologize for lack of videos, and second, my laptop crapped out on me early this year. Thankfully Christmas Day 2024 I was gifted a new laptop to make more videos for you all!

This is a Federal Sign & Signal SD-10A three-phase Civil Defense/fire siren. It only sounds in attack and is used for fire, emergencies, medical reasons, and sometimes weather warnings, at any time day or night. The siren is not tested by the VFD.

The SD-10 was introduced from 1954 to 1987, when Federal Signal streamlined their lineup. The SD-10 stood for "Special Dual-toned 10 HP," and proved to be a reliable and effective siren seen on CD systems in the 50's and 60's, mostly in smaller cities. It was an outdoor warning siren not just used for Civil Defense, but for Volunteer Fire Department usage, as well as tornado and SWA (Severe Weather Awareness) systems.

The SD-10 is mounted on the roof of the building at Deerfield Volunteer Fire Company, known as Deerfield Fire District No. 1, on the intersection of Firehouse and Trenton Roads in Deerfield, NY. Deerfield is in the Utica, NY, area, in the county of Oneida.
