Geographical Position:
India, officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area and the most populous country in the world. India's population grew to almost 1.4 billion in 2022. It is washed by the Indian Ocean in the south, the Arabian Sea in the southwest, and the Bay of Bengal in the southeast.
India is situated on the Indian subcontinent. India shares borders with several countries, including Pakistan to the northwest, China and Nepal to the north, Bhutan to the northeast, and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east.
India's climate is influenced by factors like the monsoon winds, ocean currents, and topography. As a result, the country has a wide range of weather patterns, from the hot and humid conditions of the coastal regions to the cold and snowy in the Himalayas.
Rivers:
India is known for its extensive river systems. Some of the major rivers in India include the Ganges (or Ganga), Brahmaputra, Yamuna, Godavari, Krishna, Narmada, and Kaveri. These rivers play a crucial role in the country's agriculture, economy, and cultural heritage.
Islands:
India has a number of islands along its coastline and in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. Some of the notable islands include the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal and the Lakshadweep Islands in the Arabian Sea.
India is a federal union comprising 28 states and 8 union territories. The capital of India is New Delhi.
India has become a fast-growing major economy and a hub for information technology services. It has a space programme which includes several planned or completed extraterrestrial missions. Indian movies, music, and spiritual teachings play an increasing role in global culture. India's land is megadiverse, with four biodiversity hotspots. Its forest cover comprises 21.7% of its area. India's wildlife is supported among these forests, and elsewhere, in protected habitats.
People:
The people of India belong to various ethnic, linguistic, and religious groups. The majority of the population follows Hinduism, but there are also significant populations of Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and others. India is known for its cultural diversity, with different regions having their own languages, traditions, cuisine, and festivals.
The people of India are often referred to as "Indians" and are known for their hospitality, great cultural heritage, and contributions to various fields like arts, science, technology, and literature.
