RBI hikes repo rate by 50 basis points to 5.40 %, highest since 2019

Описание: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das-led Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) Friday raised the repo rate by 50 basis point, pushing the lending rate to 5.40%. After RBI's August policy meeting decision, the repo rate is above pre-pandemic levels of 5.15 percent — the highest since 2019. This is the third time in a row the lending rate has been hiked since the beginning of the current financial year, as central banks continue to squeeze excess liquidity to manage inflation.
