Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Easy Way to Hide All Negative Values in Excel.
Welcome back to another MrExcel netcast! In yesterday's episode, I showed you how to use the IF function to hide any negative values in your spreadsheet. But did you know there's a non-formula way to achieve the same result? In today's video, I'll show you how to format away negatives using a simple number format.
First, let's go back to the original formula from two days ago. I've selected all the cells with both positive and negative values. Now, instead of using a formula, we'll use a number format. To do this, go to Format Cells and select the Number tab. You'll see that the cells are currently formatted as a number. We want to change this to a custom format, so scroll down and select Custom.
In the custom format box, you can enter up to four different number formats, separated by a semicolon. The first format is for positive or zero values, the second is for negative values, the third is for zeros, and the fourth is for text. In this case, we only need to enter two formats. The first one will be for positive or zero values, and the second one will be for negative values. So, we'll enter "0;" which means to show the number as is if it's positive or zero, but show nothing if it's negative. When we click OK, all the positive numbers will remain visible, but the negative numbers will disappear.
This is a great way to quickly hide all the negative numbers in your spreadsheet without having to change your formula. It's a simple number format that can save you time and effort.
