The Nagara River originates from Mt. Dainigatake in Takasu, Gujo City, joins many tributaries, and flows into Ise Bay as one of the three Kiso rivers.
The water in the middle of the Nagara River has been selected as one of the "Top 100 Famous Waters", and it is also a place where cormorant fishing on the Gifu Nagara River, which continues to preserve the old traditions, is still held.

Minato-cho, Tamai-cho, and Motohama-cho, which continues west from the cormorant viewing boat platform at the south end of Nagara Bridge, is commonly known as Kawahara-cho, and still retains an old townscape with lattice doors.
This area, where old-fashioned Japanese houses with narrow frontages and long depths line the eaves, used to prosper as a river port using the water transport of the Nagara River, and was bustling with many shops. Even now, shops that manufacture and sell the traditional Gifu fan, and Japanese confectionery shops that are known for Gifu's famous confectionery, Ayugashi, are still operating with their retro atmosphere.
Furthermore, in recent years, modern restaurants and other establishments have appeared in townhouses, adding a new charm to the area. It's right next to the boarding point for the cormorant fishing viewing boat, so it's also recommended for a stroll before watching cormorant fishing.
In addition, it has been certified as [Tomorrow's Treasure] in the Gifu Treasure Certification Project promoted by Gifu Prefecture as the "Kawaramachi Neighborhood".
