Vienna Walking Route - 19. Bezirk Döbling Billrothstrasse to Karmeliterkirche (Carmelite church)

The Billrothstrasse and the Döblinger Hauptstrasse are Döbling's main traffic and shopping streets. Billrothstrasse was named after the surgeon Theodor Billroth. The Kattus sparkling wine cellars are located on Billrothstrasse, next to the "Vienna Base 19" student residence and the Billrothapotheke. The company was founded in 1857 by Johann Kattus as a delicatessen and was expanded by his son Johann Nepomuk Kattus in 1890 with the sparkling wine cellar. In the past, the Cafe Wannenmacher and the Cafe Billroth were often used by the students of the surrounding high schools for some self-imposed free hours. The existence of the Döbling St.Paul parish has been proven from the 15th century and is dedicated to St. Paul. In the Zacherl factory, Johann Zacherl produced insect powder. From 2006 the factory was used for art events. The Saarpark has been a recreation area for young and old since 1908 and is named after the poet Ferdinand von Saar. The Carmelite Monastery and adjacent Roman Catholic Church were built between 1898 and 1901.

Die Billrothstrasse und die Döblinger Hauptstrasse sind Hauptverkehrs- und Einkaufsstrassse Döblings. Benannt wurde die Billrothstrasse nach dem Chirurgen Theodor Billroth. In der Billrothstrasse befinden sich neben dem Studentenwohnheim "Vienna Base 19" und der Billrothapotheke die Sektkellerei Kattus. Das Unternehmen wurde im Jahre 1857 von Johann Kattus als Feinkostladen gegründet und von dessen Sohn Johann Nepomuk Kattus im Jahre 1890 mit der Sektkellerei erweitert wurde. Das Cafe Wannenmacher und das Cafe Billroth wurden in früheren Jahren gerne von den von den Schülern der umliegenden Gymnasien für so manche selbstverordnete Freistunde genutzt. Die Existenz der Pfarre Döbling St.Paul ist ab dem 15. Jahrhundert nachgewiesen und ist dem heiligen Paulus geweiht. In der Zacherl Fabrik wurde von Johann Zacherl die Produktion von Insektenpulver betrieben. Ab dem Jahr 2006 wurde die Fabrik für Kunstveranstaltungen genutzt. Der Saarpark ist ein seit dem Jahr 1908 bestehender Erholungsort für Jung und Alt und ist nach dem Dichter Ferdinand von Saar benannt. Das Karmelitenkloster und die angrenzende römisch-katholische Kirche wurden von 1898 bis 1901 erbaut.
