Bayhorse is a small Ghost Town located in central Idaho. Originally started due to a rich find of Silver ore, the town blossomed to work the small number of very profitable mines around the town.
Discovered in the 1870's, the deposits at the Ramshorn and Skylark mines were some of the richest and largest in town. The deposits here were worked until the early 1900's, when the price of silver simply could not sustain the very high costs to remove the ore to the smelter. What remained on site was a large amount of ore and material still containing much silver in the form of Stibnite, Tetrahedrite and smaller amounts of Galena.
The site I explore today is that of the Skylark mine. This one is a large complex of smaller connected tunnels, covering the side and upper part of Ramshorn Mountain. Left behind, even to this day, there is a large number of buildings, tram towers, and even some tunnels. This site has such a rich and colorful history that it is a privilege to explore what is left.
