Do you already have some experience in mountaineering and you want to challenge yourself more? Then try climbing the traverse of Mt. Makiling a.k.a. "MAKTRAV"!

Mt. Makiling is a dormant volcano which lies in the border of Laguna and Batangas. That's why doing a traverse is actually crossing two province.

If you just want to have a normal trek on a well-preserved forest only, then start at the UP Los Baños College of Forestry and don't do traverse.

But if you are up for a much challenging climb, then start climbing the mountain on its traverse at Sitio Jordan, Brgy. San Miguel, Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

There are a lot of assaults on the trail of MakTrav. There are also rope segments where you really need to do some rappelling and literally "climb" stones and cliffs. And since its a tropical rain forest, a shower to a mild and heavy rain can be expected which will make the trail really muddy and slippery, a more difficult way to trek. And watch out, one slip can end up to a disastrous accident. If you feel a little bit itch on some part of your body, check it. There might be a Limatik already sucking your blood. Aside from those, the trail is really abundant with plants and trees, which sometimes really blocks the trail. And because of that, you'll really need to exert some efforts in ducking and jumping on some obstacles on the trails. And sometimes you might even get a hold of a Rattan accidentally, a very thorny plant.

Some people might say that Makiling is not worth the climb because it does not really offer majestic scenic view of either Batangas or Laguna at the peak (only some views during the trail). But if you will take time to notice, that is not Makiling has to offer. This mountain offers its sanctuary for plants and wildlife. During the trail, you'll be amazed how thick its forest is unlike to other mountains. It also offers a challenging major day hike where you can know yourself more and surpass your limits. A good starting point if you're planning to climb a more difficult mountains in the future (e.g. Tarak Ridge, Guiting-Guiting, Halcon, etc.)
